The
Solón Foundation works as both an office
and a public gallery displaying the works of Walter
Solón Romero. The exhibitions change regularly
to highlight the extraordinary range of art that
Solón produced from engravings to watercolours
to woodwork and textiles.
The exhibitions are also linked
to key themes in both Solón's work and
the current work of the Foundation. Recent exhibitions
have included works grouped under the titles:
Human Rights, Flowers of Hope, The other face
of history, Portrait of the People. All the
exhibitions are an excellent way to understand
Bolivia's history through art, from the perspective
of those who have been exploited but also active
in resisting and fighting for a just world.
In the longer-term, the plan is
to convert the gallery into a "house-museum"
which also features Solón's workshops (already
open to the public), videos and audio-visual work
by the Fundación, a library and information
centre, and interactive exhibits that deepen knowledge
and appreciation of Solón's work.
The gallery is generally
open Monday to Friday from 10-12.30am and 3-7pm.
